1. Information We Collect
We collect information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked to you ("Personal Information"). The types of Personal Information we collect include:
Identifiers: Real name, alias, postal address, unique personal identifier, online identifier, Internet Protocol (IP) address, email address, and account name.
Commercial Information: Records of memberships purchased (tiered levels), Ohana Card usage, transaction history, and business directory listings.
Professional or Employment Information: Business name, industry category, professional certifications, and referral history.
Financial Information: Payment card numbers or bank account information (processed securely through third-party merchant processors; we do not store full credit card numbers on our local servers).
2. How We Collect Your Information
We collect information through:
Direct Interaction: When you register for a membership, sign up for the Ohana Card, list your business in our directory, submit or update listing details, or attend a networking event.
Automated Technologies: As you navigate the Site, we may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to collect data about your equipment and browsing patterns.
Referral System: Information provided by other members through our community referral network (for example, a member submitting your contact information so you can receive a referral introduction).
Ohana Card Offers & Redemptions: If you choose to participate in the Ohana Card program, we may collect information related to offer preferences, sign-ups, and redemptions/usage to provide the program, prevent abuse, and improve the experience.
3. Use of Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
Maintain and display the Ohana Connect Business Directory (including verifying, formatting, and updating member listings).
Facilitate the Ohana Card network and exclusive member offers, including administering offer sign-ups and tracking redemptions/usage to operate the program.
Process monthly membership dues and manage account renewals.
Coordinate monthly networking events and community referrals, including sharing contact details as needed to connect members with potential customers or other members (with the goal of helping local business relationships happen in real life).
Communicate with you about membership, events, offers, service updates, and community notices (you can opt out of non-essential marketing communications).
Calculate and facilitate contributions to Ohana Malamalama, our sister mission for affordable housing and family stability.
Detect, prevent, and respond to fraud, harassment, abuse, or security incidents impacting our community and services.
Comply with legal obligations, such as the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA).
4. Sharing and Disclosure of Information
We do not sell your Personal Information. We share your information only in the following ways:
Public Directory: If you are a member business, certain business information (such as business name, category, general location, website, and business contact details you choose to publish) may be displayed publicly to facilitate local commerce and referrals. You are responsible for ensuring any information you submit for a public listing is information you are comfortable making public.
Referrals & Introductions: When you participate in our referral system, we may share relevant contact and business information with other members (and/or with the prospective customer) to facilitate the introduction. We aim to keep referral-sharing community-first and practical (enough to make the connection, not more than needed).
Ohana Card Program (Exclusive Offers): If you opt into the Ohana Card program, we may share limited information as needed to administer offers (for example, confirming eligibility or tracking a redemption/usage). We do not share your Personal Information with participating businesses for their own independent marketing unless you separately consent or initiate contact with them.
Service Providers: We share data with trusted third parties who perform services for us, such as payment processing (Merchant Services), email communications, analytics, and website hosting. These providers are permitted to use Personal Information only to perform services for us.
Mission Transparency: We may share aggregate, non-identifying data regarding the total impact of membership fees on the Ohana Malamalama housing fund.
Legal Requirements & Safety: We may disclose information if required by law, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, safety, and security of our community members, the public, or our services (including responding to harassment, threats, fraud, or illegal activity).
5. California Privacy Rights
Under the California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have specific rights:
Right to Know: You may request disclosure of the specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you.
Right to Delete: You may request the deletion of your personal information, subject to certain legal exceptions (such as maintaining active membership records).
Right to Opt-Out: While we do not sell data, you may manage your visibility in our public directory through your account settings.
Non-Discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights (for example, by denying services, charging different prices, or providing a different level or quality of services), subject to what is reasonably necessary to provide the services you request.
How to Submit a Request: Contact us using the information in Section 8. We may need to verify your identity before completing certain requests.
6. Security
We implement commercially reasonable security measures to protect your information. We also take practical steps to reduce the risk of unwanted contact, harassment, or misuse of personal details. For example, we may use registered agent services and/or commercial mail receiving services for administrative correspondence and privacy. This does not change our commitment to lawful operation—our legal filings and compliance obligations are maintained in accordance with Siskiyou County and the State of California requirements.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our community operations or legal requirements. We will notify members of any significant changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Effective Date."
